Aloha from The Very Best Cats

Finally, time to write on the blog. It is sunday afternoon and I am coughing the afternoon away, while my husband is trying to sleep away the allergy symptoms that attacked him while going through our attic, looking for Christmas decorations. It is very dusty up there. As for Tiger, Motor and Jack, they are all well, which is good, because I would have had a difficult time taking care of them while I have been sick.

In the beginning of December, Scott and I went to Maui Hawaii for a 9 day vacation. We went back to the same place on the island that we had visited 2 years earlier. We like to stay at the Mahana, which is right on Kanapali beach, where every room faces the ocean, with a balcony. This time, it was later in the year and so the weather was a bit windier and cooler. The wind did die down enough the last few days we were there so that we could enjoy some time on the beach.
View from our room.
Being the wildlife person that I am, I wanted to go out looking for whales. Humpbacks visit Hawaii from mid-December through March. They have their babies and hang out in the warm waters until it is time to go back and eat again in the cooler waters in our northern states. So we went out in a raft for 30 people and we were not disappointed. For a couple of hours, we followed a mom and baby swim together. The highlight of the raft trip was when both the baby and mom breached. Our guide told us he had never seen that before. It was awesome. And fast. During the last 2 days of our vacation, we saw whales from our condo balcony.

We also got to watch sea turtles. This is a picture of one that I photographed from our room.

Here are a few more pictures from our vacation...

Gorgeous Maui sunset I was able to photograph.
Maui rainbow.
Kanapali beach.
And a rare photo of Scott and myself having lunch at Cheesburger in Paradise in Lahaina.
It is always difficult to leave home when you care about your pets. Jack stayed with his second family, Joyce and her husband. He gets well taken care of there. Joyce and her husband have a strong liking for terriers. They have 5, so Jack fits right in.

Tiger and Motor were taken care of by a very good friend of mine named Regina. Another animal lover, Regina and her partner John have 2 dogs but have had a cat free household for over 10 years now. This was a good opportunity for Regina to get some ginger kitty love in. Of course, Motor hid for the first day, but after that, he came out every day for his daily dose of loving.

It is good to be home, except for having this bad cold/flu. I am finishing this post on monday and I am still sick. Since friday night!! That is a long time for me. Scott is better all ready. Good for him.

I have to sign off now. It is getting close to my naptime. I'm sure I'll have some furry folk in here in no time. I just sneezed and scared Motor out of the room. I'm sure he will be back.

  2. We went to the islands of Hawaii on a cruise 3 years ago and I loved it there. I am not sure if it was Maui, or another island. We were in the sea and the turtles were swimming around us. We hope to go back next October.
    Merry Christmas to you.
