We Need Help

Yesterday, I had to put flea medicine on Tiger.  I usually buy the medicine knowing I need to put it on him soon, and let weeks go by until I can get the courage up to do the deed.  He hates it.  I hate it.  He gets traumatized.  I feel AWFUL and traumatized too.

Tiger knows when I am going to put his med on.  He is one smart boy.  And then he runs and hides under anything he can find.  Last night my husband had to hold him down forcefully while I put the medicine on him.  Then I have to woo him for at least a day to get us back to a balanced place.

Please, if anyone knows how to treat a cat as scared as Tiger gets when it comes to med time, I would be very grateful for some help and ideas.  I am at a loss.  I do not want to hurt him, physically or emotionally.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Poor sweet boy! It is always so traumatic to do things to the cats that are good for them but that they don't understand, like giving medicine or clipping nails. I'm afraid I don't have any advice, but can certainly sympathize with the situation!

Is it the Advantage or Revolution that goes on the back of his neck? I think it is the smell that upsets him. Perhaps if you feed him something stinky and yummy as you are applying it to his neck he wouldn't notice it so much. You have to be very fast too.

Maybe if you try to associate something good with when you do his medicine, that might help. Like giving him treats or something really yummy to eat!!

Thank you all for your support and ideas. I will have to try with the treats. It will definitely help in the end.
