A Spot of Sunshine

Summer weather here in Northern CA has not been very summery.  So when we had a brief, 5 minute cloud clearing yesterday, Tiger made sure he was going to make the most of it.

My cat's catio is right outside my studio, and when I looked outside, this is what I saw.

Tiger was all sprawled out, soaking up the sun so I had to get my camera.

That's my boy!

I took LOTS of photos, and after a while Tiger decided he was done.  Here he is, walking back into the studio.

Tiger and the Heater

Motor: Hey Mom, where's Tiger?

Mom: I think he is in the bedroom Motor.

Motor: Tiger, is that you? What the heck are you doing?

Tiger: Just laying here by the warm hole.

Tiger: Sometimes, warm breezes come out of this hole and I like to roll around on it.

Tiger: After I roll around, I get sleepy. I think I am ready for a naptime Motor.

Motor: I think I am ready for a naptime too Tiger. Make room for me. I'm coming over!

Cats and Art

Cats and art in many forms are my favorite subjects to look at, to talk about, to write about...you see what I mean.

Well I was just on Etsy, the handmade website where I have my 2 online stores and I decided to do a search for cat tote bags. There are many wonderful totes by different artists but when I came across this artist's work, I had to stop and spend more time there.

The artist is Laurie J Groove and her shop name is "Art by LJ Groove." She has totes with cats large and small, and other accessories with her artwork on them. But her painting images...they are just beautiful.

I have had an interest in big cats since I was little. I can remember I had posters all around my bed of leopards and lions. And when I started drawing and using pastels, the only thing I wanted to draw was lions. I still have my original sketchbooks with my lion drawings.

Now, as an adult, I have a love of tigers. They are such a beautiful animal, and becoming rarer and rarer unfortunately. I like tigers so much that I named my first cat Tiger. Just an aside here...Tiger went to the vet today for shots and he was weighed. 16 1/2 pounds...you see, he is a big cat too.

Here's a few samples of Laurie's artwork.

Laurie does many different animals: domestic cats, dogs, elephants, lemurs, birds and much much more. If you like these pictures, you might enjoy visiting her online store. I hink you will be inspired.

Back from Vacation

Dad: All right Motor, we're finally home.

Dad: There you go.

Motor: Boy, it feels good to be out of that suitcase. I can finally stretch my legs. All 4 of them.

Dad: Hey, don't go away yet. You need to help unpack.

Motor: All right. But then I have to go find Tiger. I need to run around and play after that cramped plane ride. Next time we need to fly 1st class. They just don't give us enough room in coach.

Motor: Where do you think Tiger and Mom are? I missed them.

Motor: There's Tiger! Hey Tiger, I'm home. Did you miss me?

Tiger: Miss you? Did I miss you? You left me here with that crazy deaf cat and Mom with her camera. Flash, click, flash, click. That's all she does. Tiger, look here, Tiger, look there. Oh you look so cute Tiger, kiss, kiss. Next thing I know she will be photographing me using the litter box. So did I miss you? You bet!

Tiger: Next time, I'm going on vacation and you get to stay home.

Naptime

Tiger: Oh no, here she comes again with that camera. Mom, can't you see I'm trying to sleep.

Dad, save me please. She won't go away. She keeps flashing that light at me. Don't you have something you need to do in the yard Mom? What about that big weeding project you have going on?

Oh yeah, reminded her about the yard. That was a good one. That got her to leave. Now I can get down to the business at hand----my afternoon nap.

Going to Montana

Tiger: While Dad talks to Motor about his trip to Montana...

Tiger: I'm going to sneak inside his suit case to go with him. I need a vacation! Northern California has been so drab.

Tiger: Ahhh... A perfect fit!

Tiger: Oh no, Motor sees me. (Motor on left)

Tiger: I'll have to distract him. "Hey Motor, come to the window. Smokey is outside."

Tiger: This didn't work at all as planned. Motor got in my suitcase!

Tiger: Oh great, now what do I do?

Tiger: I'll have to create another diversion.

Tiger: "Motor look, the racoons are outside. And it's not even dark out."

Motor: "Tiger, you can't trick me out of this suitcase. I need a vacation too!"

Motor: "OK Dad, I'm ready to go."

Cat Quote for the Day

"There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats."

Albert Schweitzer

A quote I truly believe in! Why just the other day, after a seriously bad day at work, as soon as I got in the door at home, I picked up my Tiger, turned on some music, and we danced. You may not have known, but Tiger is a very good dancer. One of the best.

And by the time Tiger was ready to be let down, I was feeling much better. Kitty therapy is the best therapy around.

Motor Wants Some Fun

Motor: Tiger, hey Tiger, let's play!

Tiger: Motor, can't you see I'm trying to relax here?

Motor: But Tiger, I'm bored.

Tiger: Go ask K.C. Maybe she wants to play.

Motor: K.C. How about you? Do you want to play?

K.C.: Motor, don't you see I'm busy cleaning.

Motor: Oh, you two are no fun at all.

Tiger: Ahhhhhhhhh... a little time alone.
